Watching people and thinking about my own behaviour I’ve noticed how differently people behave when they are with children.
A silliness gene seems to come out of nowhere to create a singing, dancing childlike adult that can put a smile on any child’s face. And anyone seems to have this ability to become young again, not only those who already have children.
But the main thing I’ve noticed is the creative side that comes out whilst playing with children.
Paper sword fights, pretend pirate games, dress up animal games – all these take imagination and creativity on the adults part as well as the childs. So is creativity within us all?
It’s been a long thought principle that not everyone has the ability to be creative – something I have believed myself being quite an uncreative person.
But since having a child of my own I seem to have developed more creativity – being able to play games and create things to do that will fascinate a child’s mind.
So are children the key to creativity? Probably not, but I think the ability to be able to think like a child and get into their mind gives you an advantage in this field.
I think as we grow up a part of our learning encourages us to grow up which in turn locks away some of this potential – whereas if we encourage imagination we could see some of the greatest marketing minds created.
Creativity and imagination is vitally important in the marketing industry – with businesses needing that edge to create a powerful marketing campaign. Guerrilla and viral marketing are becoming the way forward and these require a different train of thought that the simple flyers and mail outs traditionally used.
Being able to find yourself a highly creative marketing team is an important part of getting started on marketing and this doesn’t have to be expensive – there are students studying marketing who are craving the chance to use their knowledge out in the real world for low cost – well a lot lower than the marketing team of some of the most effective businesses.
The key is to write / design from the heart – thats where true creativity comes from and don’t be afraid to be different. Don’t look to stand out from the crowd, try to not be in the crowd at all, make your own way through marketing using new and inventive ideas.
And this week is Creativity Week: Powered by Adobe – the perfect opportunity for you to get creative and find your imaginative side.Getting Creative and Getting into a Childs Mind,
