Another use for the flash drive is storing portable applications. Some software applications can be loaded onto a flash drive and be accessed independently from your hard drive on your computer. The Firefox browser is one such program. Other programs include Audacity, GIMP, Filezilla, Open Office, and Thunderbird. These programs can be used to view the web, listen to music, create documents and the list goes on.

he flash drive can also be used as a troubleshooting tool for computers .Since most new computers are being manufactured now without a floppy disc drive; the flash drive has taken its place a boot device. You can create a boot disk on your flash drive. This tool will assist you in loading your operating system in the event you have a system and cant load the system automatically or you need to reinstall your operating system all together. You can also load other diagnostic utilities to troubleshoot problem with your computer.
