You could use many different types of materials for printed banners and posters:-

180gm Photorealistic Matt
170gm Photograde Silk
200gm Photograde Gloss
140gm Wet Strength Paper
Blue Back
Back Lit or
Banner Vinyl

There are two different types of inks that can be used to print posters and banners.

If you want printed posters for indoor use, you can use dye based inks. The dye based inks give vary rich colours, but are susceptible to ultraviolet (UV) rays and sunlight. If used outside they will fade. Inside, the colours will last a very long time. The inks are in expensive compared to solvent based inks.

If you want printed posters and printed banners for outdoor use, then you would need sunlight and UV resistance. This can be achieved by opting for solvent based inks. The solvent based inks are guaranteed to resist sunlight for up to 3 years and could last even more. They are also waterproof and can be printed on to many non porous materials on which you print your posters and banners.

Among the materials mentioned, some are suitable only for dye based inks, others are suitable for solvent based inks and some can be used for both.

For finishing, you could have lamination if the material you are using is 180gm photorealistic matt paper. It would be double sided and the coating would be 43 micron thick. This would protect the poster and make it resistant to scratches. You cannot do lamination on the 170gm photograde silk and 200gm photograde silk since their natural surface effects will have no use if you use lamination.

Encapsulation can be used if you want your printed posters and banners to be water proof. The method is similar to lamination, except that the coating extends over the edges of the posters and seals together thus making them waterproof. The plastic coating use for encapsulation could be 43 micron, 125 micron, or 250 micron thick on each side. The process can be done on 180gm photorealistic matt paper, 170gm photograde silk, and 200gm photograde gloss. But it is better to use the photorealistic paper since, after the encapsulation the end results are almost similar and you will save costs by going for the paper.

You have the option of mounting printed posters on 10 mm centafoam which would have a very appealing effect. The transport costs of the mount can be high though.

Printed banners which use banner vinyl can be eyeletted and roped and could be hung outdoors, on a fence, over a bridge etc. In case of eyeletting, maximum durability is ensured by folding and bonding the edges of the printed banners.

You could use printed posters and printed banners during parties, events, competitions, conventions and other promotional events.
